You’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard something about AI over the past 6 months. But Why? What’s different now and why is this being talked about so much? Is this going to be another fad that I “have to be a part of” that will eventually be reduced down to a splash in the pan next year? (don’t worry crypto, I think there’s still a future) Well, the answer is no… whether you like it or not, AI is not only here to stay, but it will most likely creep into most aspects of our lives whether we know it or not. Let’s discuss what’s why…

Traditional Artificial intelligence has actually been around since the 1950s, but the AI you’ve been hearing about over the last 6 months is a whole different ballgame. This “newer AI” is called Generative AI, which is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new and original content, such as images, music, or text, by learning patterns and generating outputs that resemble the data it was trained on.

Think of a Chef that needs to make a dish with random stuff from the refrigerator like pickles, hot sauce, marshmallows, and cheese, and somehow it works! The Chef in this example would be the Generative AI and all those ingredients that were available would be the data it was trained on. The good news for all of us that are a little scared of this new reality is the output of these models are not always correct, and I’m sure that dish would be gross, but you get the example….

This new technology has massive implications in our daily lives, and we’re living only in the earliest stages of what will become the norm. Bill Gates recently wrote about this new phase of AI: “The development of [generative] AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone. 😰 Well that’s just great…. so it’s the end of the world?

The first thing I get asked "Is generative AI going to take over the world?" Well, fear not, my friend. Generative AI may have some tricks up its digital sleeve, but it's not planning to overthrow humanity anytime soon. This is not to say that serious considerations aren’t being taken to ensure our safety, but these creative machines lack true consciousness and understanding. They're more like those parrots that mimic your voice but have no idea what they're saying. So, rest easy—we're not living in a sci-fi movie just yet!

😅 Can it at least do my job for me then?

Alongside all of the FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) you hear these days, there are even more AI products popping up that claim to make our lives easier. And it’s true!
